Heartbreak for a Tortured Soul

December 21, 20232 min read

Whoever is generous to the poor lends to the Lord, and he will repay him for his deed. -Proverbs 19:17

Eliza* has been on the street for around two years. When our founder Kenny first saw her in 2021, he described her as a beautiful young lady and how it pained him to see her out there due to her drug addiction. Having lived on the street himself, he knew firsthand that if she stayed out there too long it would take a serious toll on her. He began praying consistently for her salvation and deliverance from addiction.

Sarah was out serving our unsheltered friends ice and water this past week, and spotted Eliza. She could tell that Eliza was not high on drugs, and they began to talk.

Eliza said, “I have not used drugs today, and I didn’t use them yesterday, and I don’t plan to use them tomorrow either.” Sarah took this opportunity of sobriety to talk to Eliza about Jesus, and to pray for her, with her, and over her.

Right there on E. Lancaster, Eliza was led to the Lord.

A step in the right direction to be sure, but Eliza’s battle was far from over. In that moment it was apparent that she desperately wanted out of her current situation.

“I am scared on the street. I do not want to be raped again. I do not want to use or be used again.”

Sarah’s heart shattered at hearing these words. The truth is that while Eliza works through our program, she will have to remain on the street until accommodations can be made down the line. All shelters are at capacity, and we don’t have a safe place for her yet.

Our current campaign is to procure a discipleship home for those working through our program. Since BBLRC is funded entirely by private donations, it is imperative for us to build a community of supporters who are passionate about our mission. Our goal is to partner with 25 ($50, $100, or $250) monthly donors by the end of the year in order to make the discipleship home a reality.

This life changing and soul saving work is only possible through God’s provision and because of people like you. Don’t wait, contact us today! Eliza and countless others will have a safe place to call home because of your generosity.

With your continued support we can “Change Lives One Soul at a Time”.
